Shuai Chang approached the bedside without any doubts.
Ya Xi Ber En lifted the blanket and pointed at his own body, saying, “Did you see it last night?”
Shuai Chang suppressed the urge to gush blood and awkwardly nodded, “I saw it.”
Ya Xi Ber En leaned closer to him, asking, “Is my body not attractive to you? Why aren’t you looking at me?”
Shuai Chang found it hard to express his feelings. He certainly wanted to look, but this body couldn’t do anything right now; merely looking without any other interaction seemed pointless.
“No, Ya Xi’s body is beautiful.” His voice was deep.
“But I don’t think so. Austin, are you just pretending to like me? How could someone truly like another if they could resist the temptation to help them bathe?”
Shuai Chang found himself retreating under Ya Xi Ber En’s aggressive stare.
He pursed his lips and remained silent.
Silence is the strongest fortress in the world. Shuai Chang lowered his head without saying a word, and Ya Xi Ber En couldn’t do anything about it.
“What’s urgent now is to determine the transmission of the disease. Let’s go ask Anse Al.”
After finishing his sentence, Shuai Chang pushed the door open and turned back to say, “Ya Xi, you should get dressed first. I’ll wait for you outside.”
Ya Xi wanted to kick Austin a few times and question him about avoiding his inquiries, but alas, he couldn’t. He was the noble saint and had to remain graceful in every movement.
After changing into his clothes, Ya Xi Ber En came out. Shuai Chang, who had been leaning against the wall, stood up and reached for his hand.
Ya Xi Ber En looked expressionlessly at the large palm in front of him and couldn’t help but place his hand on top of it.
His hand was very white, delicate, and soft, while Austin’s hand was even whiter, appearing almost bloodless. The touch was cold and enveloped him in its palm.
Shuai Chang couldn’t help but chuckle, “Let’s go, lovely saint.”
The saint held back but eventually said, “Don’t think I’ve forgotten about that compliment you gave me.”
Shuai Chang turned around in surprise, “What compliment?”
“Austin, you’re so unreasonable.” Ya Xi Ber En attempted to withdraw his hand.
Shuai Chang held on tightly, “Ya Xi, there are so many people watching.”
Ya Xi Ber En immediately stood straight and looked forward. “Let go of me,” he spoke softly, pressing his lips together.
Shuai Chang shook his hand, saying, “Not letting go.” Once he had placed it in his palm, he wouldn’t release it easily.
Shuai Chang understood that Ya Xi Ber En wasn’t genuinely angry; he had gradually developed a vague fondness for Shuai Chang. Subconsciously seeking security, he asked those questions.
Shuai Chang felt a sweet rush in his heart for this adorable being and wanted nothing more than to reveal the truth to him right away.
The two arrived at Anse Al’s door, where Shuai Chang took the initiative to release Ya Xi Ber En’s hand and knocked.
Soon, footsteps approached, and Anse Al’s slightly hoarse voice was heard: “Who is it?”
Ya Xi Ber En pushed Shuai Chang aside and stood at the door, “Anse Al, it’s me.”
As soon as Ya Xi finished speaking, the door swung open. Anse Al exclaimed in surprise, “Your Highness the Saint! What brings you here? Please come in. I haven’t thanked you yet for saving me.”
Shuai Chang followed Ya Xi Ber En inside, feeling that his pale face was fully exposed to the light. Anse Al asked, “Is Sir Knight injured? Why do you look so pale?”
Ya Xi Ber En turned back, as if realizing something, and carefully looked at Shuai Chang. “You do seem a bit pale. Maybe it’s because you’re taking care of me and haven’t slept for a whole day?”
After saying that, Ya Xi Ber En reached out for Shuai Chang’s hand.
Anse Al’s gaze flickered slightly, “Is everything alright, Your Highness the Saint? Aunt Ru Si mentioned you started sleeping right after you returned.”
Ya Xi Ber En shook his head gently, “I’m fine; only I can hurt myself.”
Anse Al led them to the guest room and invited them to sit on a stone bench.
“Is Your Highness the Saint and Sir Knight here to see me so late?” Anse Al was dressed in pajamas, just getting ready for bed when he heard their knock.
Shuai Chang spoke in a low voice, “We have some questions we want to ask you.”
Anse Al nodded, “As long as I can answer, I will be candid.”
Shuai Chang rubbed the slender fingers in his hand, “What did you do the night you got sick? Please tell us about anyone or any items you came into contact with.”
Anse Al’s pupils moved down as he recalled, “That day my uncle said a celebration banquet would be held. After returning from the countryside with you, we directly went to the back mountain to catch a wild goat, planning to roast it for dinner. Then I dealt with the goat meat, and just after letting the goat’s blood flow, I started to feel a bit dizzy. At that moment, I thought the dark spots on my arms and legs were dirt until my limbs began to swell and I felt tearing pain. Later, Aunt Ru Si came to call me for the banquet and discovered my condition…”
“During this time, did you meet anyone other than Lady Ru Si?”
Anse Al shook his head, “No.”
“What did Lady Ru Si give you to help alleviate the symptoms?”
Anse Al looked surprised, “How did the Knight know? Aunt Ru Si said she happened to pick a detoxifying herb and administered it to me before heading to find Your Highness the Saint.”
Shuai Chang had no idea; he was just guessing.
Ya Xi Ber En had no issue with his body while saving others, but after saving Anse Al, he had developed feelings; it must be due to Anse Al consuming something that reacted negatively with the potion, triggering other effects.
After finishing his inquiries, Shuai Chang stood up, saying, “Sorry for the disturbance.”
Ya Xi Ber En stood up as well.
Anse Al escorted them outside, saying, “Your Highness the Saint, what I mentioned about going to Krumlov with you was a reckless assumption. I might encounter life-threatening dangers in Kane Town, let alone traveling to another country. My uncle and aunt have no children; they raised me as their own. I should stay here with them. When I am strong like Your Highness the Saint, I will journey to various places.”
Anse Al’s words were quite heart-wrenching. Ya Xi Ber En patted his shoulder for comfort, saying, “Practice diligently; it’s never too late to work hard now.”
Anse Al’s red hair indicated he had had a natural affinity with fire elements since birth, yet he was only a junior mage by his twenties, suggesting he hadn’t practiced magic properly in the usual course of things.
